Subject: [Tweeters] Birds of the week: American Bittern and American Coot
Date: Jan 8 21:35:57 2006
From: Rob Sandelin - floriferous at msn.com
I was catching aquatic insects and hoping to find a giant water bug when I
looked up and across the way a group of birders appeared to be scrutinizing
me with their scopes and binoculars. I waved and several of them pointed to
my right. I looked over and saw nothing, made the univerisal shrug sign.
They pointed more vehemently. I looked again, still saw nothing. There was a
small sort of bay a bit out of my view so I thought whatever they were
looking at must be there so I sort of wade/crawled slowly in that direction.
I just about peed my waders when a bittern materialized out of nowhere,
right in front of me and took wing! I did not even see it until it moved.
