Following up the Everett CBC with thoughts of the next effort, I birded here
and there in the count circle over the weekend. A few birds to report:

Cackling Goose 1 (Marysville STP, not seen on CBC)
Trumpeter Swan 11 (Marysville STP)

Cinnamon Teal 6 (Marysville STP, we had 3 on CBC, on 1/7 there were a pair
in marsh north of n. pond, 1 on n. pond, 3 on s. pond as on CBC)

Mallard X Am. Black Duck 1 (Marysville STP, missed on CBC)
Barn Owl 1 (flushed from old barn e. edge of Marysville STP)
Townsend's Warbler 1 (Jennings Park, Marysville)
Swamp Sparrow 1 (heard only, missed on CBC)

This latter bird was at 500 Sunnyside Blvd, near the e.s.e. corner of the
circle, a mini-sewage treatment plant right along Ebey Slough and a
much-needed access to the dike along the e. side of the slough. I
encountered the caretaker and he said birders have been allowed in, but they
must always get his permission to enter. At this little STP there were also
a variety of ducks, including N. Shoveler, Gadwall and a probable female
BLUE-WINGED TEAL, not seen quite well enough for 100% i.d.

The larger-than average duck count this year was again evident at the
Marysville STP, where most of the 1090 Lesser Scaup counted on the CBC were
still present, as were some 250-300 Ring-necked Ducks, and about 300 N.
Shoveler.
