I love a challenge and after years of watching the territorial disputes
and antics of Short Eared Owls I have been trying to capture images of
their acrobatics. I have seen them go into high speed stoops, lock
talons with other SEO's as well as Northern Harriers, divebomb Bald
Eagles and Rough Legged Hawks. They also have a wide variety of
expressions and positions while perched. Of all the birds I have
photographed owls are my favorites and the Short Eared may win the prize
as my most favorite bird. I have created a photo gallery to show some
of their unique behaviours, including aerial acrobatics, upside down
flying, a view of the "ears" that give them their name, and others. I
learn a lot from photographing birds as I am able to capture moments
that take only a split second that you miss if you watch it real time -
for example, I had no idea how often these guys go upside down! I hope
you enjoy them.
