SNOWY OWLS are the birds of the week....

Most of the birds are being seen on the Spokane Co / Lincoln Co WA line. On
3 Jan, Ron Dexter reports 3 birds. One was east of Bennett Road just south
of US 2. The second was NE of the intersection of Bennett Road and Sunset
Hwy, and the third was NE of the intersection of Waukon and Wagner Farm
Road. On 4 Jan, the Craig and Judy Corder saw 4 owls in this same general
area. On 5 Jan, in the same area, Lindell Haggin found a bird near Bennett
Road but north of US 2. And, on 6 Jan, a bird was reported where Thorpe Road
meets Lincoln Co.

The Walla Walla Co WA SNOWY OWL continues to be seen. It was last reported
on 3 Jan at the jct of Forest Road and Frog Hollow Road. This is about a
mile north of where it was originally found on 8 Dec, west along Stateline
Road near mile marker 5 between Walla Walla Co WA and Umatilla Co OR.

And, in ID, a SNOWY OWL is being seen on the Rathdrum Prairie north of Post
Falls, Kootenai Co. Look for the bird in the vicinity of Greenferry Road,
Gallop Lane, and Prairie Road. This bird was seen on 6 and 7 Jan by Lisa
Hardy, Karen & Harold Cottet, Gina Sheridan, and Mike Haldeman.

Other owls in the news include....

The BARRED OWL found by Dennis Rockwell in Two Rivers County Park, Benton Co
WA was seen 3 Jan by Mike and MerryLynn Denny. From WA 397, head east on
Finley Road for 1.5 mi. Park in the lot at the SE corner of the lagoon in
the park. Walk east on the nature trail; at the first fork stay left and
walk another 100 ft. WA DeLorme 39, C-8.

A NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL was seen 4 Jan at Bennington Lake near Walla Walla,
Walla Walla Co WA by Mike and MerryLynn Denny. The bird was roosting in the
Russian-olives on the upper trail just north of the parking lot. Also at the
lake was a basic plumaged LEAST SANDPIPER and a CACKLING GOOSE. Also in the
park were 2 BARN OWLS, 3 LONG-EARED OWLS, and 1 GREAT-HORNED OWL.

Four DUNLIN are still residing at Mann Lake east of Lewiston, Nez Perce Co
ID according to Keith Carlson.

I found a CACKLING GOOSE on 8 Jan in Latah Co ID. The bird was with Canada
Geese at the Hidden Village Trailer Park sewage ponds, 5 miles south of
Moscow, near the intersection of Eid Road and US 95.

Good birding.
