Tweets,

Just a comment. I visited Vashon yesterday in search of loons and was struck by the fact that Quartermaster Harbor is full of White-winged Scoters, which tend to be quite scattered off the King County mainland. They were the dominant scoter species (more than Surfs; no Blacks) and numbered in the hundreds.

Likewise, during my past two visits to Vashon (inspired by Ed Swan's book) I noted also that Pacific Loons as well as Eared Grebes are common in Quartermaster Harbor but scarce as the proverbial hen's teeth along the mainland shore.

Just goes to show how localized the various populations can be.
