Today on my morning walk along East Lost Lake Road there was an abundance of
bird chatter, and as I rounded a corner to drop down "butt burner hill" I
noticed a group of pine siskins in the trees along the road. Well, the
siskins continued, flying chattering and gamboling about for the entire 1.1
mile of the road length. On the way back up, to take my mind off the uphill,
I countimated (estimating using counting) 920 pine siskins along about a
mile of road. This is by far the most I have ever seen in one locale and
they were all very vocal, chattering away, fluttering and feeding on
something in the alders.

In looking through my field notes the next largest group I have countimated
is a bit over 200. Maybe todays gathering was 4 different flocks all meeting
up for a party or something. Later on a drive by I saw a coopers hawk making
a beeline flight for that same road.
