Steven and Co.,

Thanks so much for the valuable feedback. I am new to these western geese subspecies, and really appreciate your helping me get them straight. I was particularly interested in the moffitti feedback.

In the shots of the distant minima Cacklers, I can make out a few birds with thick white neck-rings. Although Sibley points out that this occurs infrequently in all populations, I wonder how likely it would be to see a number of white neck-ringed minimas, for example, at this time of year. Actually, any info on the local distribution of Aleutian birds would be appreciated.

I also appreciate Dennis's feedback on the Clark's/Western wing pattern. Great to know!

As for the Clark's in my photo, I noticed it after sending my post last night, and didn't have time to update my site. I sent the post, and just had a feeling it would be the case. Too funny. I totally missed it while there! :)

Thanks for the useful and stimulating discussion, everyone!

Bill

The large Canada Goose is a moffitti...

...Finally, in the grebe shots, look at the shot above the one with the lone standing bird. In that shot, a Clark's Grebe can be seen on the beach.
