In the daily Skagit Herald last week, there were three reports of problems out in the wildlife areas. Hope you people in Tweeterland did not run into any but I believe you should be aware.
1) At Jensen Access, a hunter noticed a suspicious car parked near his truck. He decided to go back to his truck and the car sped off. He called 911 and the Sheriff's Dept wanted details and latter arrested a 39 year old man and a 20 something woman. They had wallets, credit cards and hunting gear in their possession and were put in jail. Supposedly the Sheriff had been looking for them.
2) On Dec 31, someone shot into a flock of Snow Geese at Polson/Dry Slough Rd. 26 geese were found dead but authorities believe some were taken. Hunting season for Snow Geese is now over as of the 8th.
3) Hunters have been using "Pampers" for Snow Goose decoys and Fish and Game would appreciate if they would pick them up and dispose of them properly.
At Christmas time, we were out to the North Fork Access to look for owls. What a lousy place to park. I had to back up and turn around in a drive into a field. I then parked along the fence there and walked up to the levee. While doing so a couple hunters in a flat bed truck were backing up and they too turned around in the same drive but then parked in the middle of the road about 100 feet from my truck. I had a feeling they were up to no good so left the levee and walked back to my truck and they took off.
At the Polson Road site, we saw a mix of Swans and Snow Geese and marveled at how smart the Snow Geese were for sticking with the Swans during hunting season. There was also a flock of 25-30 Mourning Doves nearby and also three eagles, 2 adults and 1 immature picking away at an old carcass of some kind.
Still a swinging place out here but there are problems.
