Today I took advantage of the nice weather and went to Discovery Park.

I had the closest encounter I have yet had with a Red-throated Loon, just a few feet away....near the lighthouse. I have not had many sightings of this kind of Loon so this was spectacular for me.

First I thought I was seeing a very funny looking Grebe, with a head that seemed stretched out like somebody pulled it. It dived, but soon came up again and I saw that it had a beak much larger than a Grebe. The color pattern was gray and white. It dived frequently. It was the only one around that I could see.
