Hey Tweets...before Bob Morse sold his bayfront lot in Ocean Shores, I used
to go out there for a look-see quite often. There were large pilings at
intervals with about 4"diameter rope between them...the pilings were just
the perfect height for me to rest my elbows and steady my binos for extended
periods of time, watching the action out on Bill's Spit.
One sunny afternoon my attention was distracted by the sound of a nearby
crow who kept up a running commentary the whole time I was there..about 45
min. There were grunts, hoots, whistles, much muttering under it's breath,
and all sorts of sounds I had not heard a crow make before then. I was
thoroughly charmed! I have since learned they are considered songbirds.
Also, I distribute black-oiled sunflower seed and chicken feed in my
driveway for both mallards and crows, and the crows get the leftovers from
my dog's meals of a mix of kibble and canned dog food, so I have quite a
population of crows in my neighborhood. When not feeding, they sort of hang
around my house and yard and I get to observe them as they groom one
another, fight, posture, and interact in many ways...very interesting birds!
