When our daughter was in middle and high school she received the majority of the phone calls. Bernie would answer, say "Hello" and then call our daughter. Our DBL Yellow-head Amazon would say the same sequence of words with about the same timing and tone.

It would also respond to the doorbell with one of these responses, "Come in" or "Just a minute". More than once we had people standing on the porch or friends standing in the living when we hadn't heard the doorbell for some reason.

Once Bernie came into the living room to see two gentlemen standing there. We had contracted to have some work done and these were the workers. In response to the look of shock and concern on Bernie's face, one of them said to her, "You told us to come in"

We seldom locked the doors at that time because of the traffic from us and the children. Bernie did so after that when she was home alone.
