I'm starting a weekly report of interesting bird reports in Spokane County
plus rare birds in adjoining counties. I'm going to omit observer's names
because some people don't want their names used. Also it saves time &
space. The risk is I'll get credit for all sightings.

SNOWY OWLS continue to be well reported with at least 4 in Lincoln Co in the
Reardon, Davenport area. One or two of the Lincoln owls occasionally wander
a short distance into Spokane Co. Another Snowy Owl was found on Mica Peak
on Jan 16. Two or three Snowy Owls continue near Tokio, SW of Sprague Lake
in Adams Co.
A GYRFALCON was found near Davenport, Lincoln Co on Jan 5 & was recently
seen again (date unknown).
A NORTHERN GOSHAWK was found on Mica Peak on Jan 16.
Up to 20 GRAY-CR ROSY-FINCHES were seen near Cheney on Jan 8, 9, & 15.
2 BLUE JAYS were near Underhill Park in Spokane, Jan 5 & 6, but not since.
Two MERLIN in the same area may be to blame.
4 GREATER SCAUP were on the Spokane River, Jan 17, a mile above 9 mile dam.

2 SHORT-EARED OWLS were seen Jan 12 in western Spokane Co on Coulee-Hite Rd
& Thorpe.
BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS have been seen in Liberty Lake, Spangle, Medical Lake,
Lakeland Village, & Cheney. The Cheney flock was the largest at 1,000. No
Spokane reports??
A few EVENING GROSBEAKS were at the Mt Spokane parking lot Jan 12. This is
apparently a declining species in Spokane Co. Please report your findings.
A migrant flock of over 500 RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS was observed arriving in
Spokane Co on Jan 6 near Williams Lake. They all appeared to be male.
Weather for the month has been wet and mild.
Spokane County group year list equals 87.

Please report your sightings. Comments welcome.
Good Birding,
