Subject: [Tweeters] A crow story from today!

For the first time ever in 14 years of bird feeding I got a crow at my
feeder station today! My father in law gave me a homemade suet feeder which
holds three suet cakes that requires the birds to hang upside down to get at
the suet. The woodpeckers and chickadees and the like have no problem and in
theory, starlings can't do this. Well crows can contort themselves pretty
well. That rascal crow managed to poke itself upside down and unhinge one of
the metal suet cake holders, dropping the suet on the ground! I sat there
somewhat stunned while the crow made off with a whole cake of suet. Dumb
me, I went about my business and came back a couple hours later to find ALL
three suet holders were hanging empty, the suet nowhere in site. That's one
pile of calories for one clever bird.

Now I've got to see if my monkey smarts can make the suet feeder crow
resistant. I think I am at a serious disadvantage here. I have problem
feeding some of my suet to the crow, I just want the other birds to have
some too.
