This morning on my way up to Mount Vernon for a family visit I did some birding along the route; stopping at the Nature Conservancy site at Port Susan Bay, and at a couple of spots in the Skagit Flats. At Port Susan Bay (where I met Gail & Steve) we observed a Snowy Owl on the property to the north and west of the Nature Convervancy area, sitting on a large stump along the water. There were two additonal Snowy Owls at the Hayton Reserve also sitting on large pieces of driftwood near the waters edge. If you plan to go to the Nature Conservancy site they ask that you call them a week in advance; call Roger Fuller at (360) 419-0175. Additional highlights of this mornings trip were:

Western Meadowlark - 7 at the Jensen Access

Rough-legged Hawk - One indivdual at Port Susan Bay

Northern Shrike - 1 at Port Susan Bay

Peregrine Falcon - 1 at Port Susan Bay

American Kestrel - 1 at Port Susan Bay

Good Birding;
