Subject: [Tweeters] West Lake Washington birding

I rode my bike from Ballard to Seward Park early this afternoon, focusing
primarily on getting exercise while it wasn't raining and the pavement was
dry. I had a headwind much of the way down, making the ride somewhat arduous
down Lake Washington Boulevard. As I turned around at Seward Park it
occurred to me that it had been a rather birdless day. I expected to find
flocks of wigeon, scaup, ring necked ducks, coots, and maybe a few
canvasbacks, and certainly some bufflehead. On my ride north I made a point
of looking for ducks. All I saw were a couple hundred birds, primarily coots
and wigeons, and about 4 horned grebes. No buffleheads or mergansers or
scaup or ring necked ducks or gadwall from Seward Park up to Madrona. Not
even a cormorant.

It was a good day for a bike ride, but not much of a day for birding on the
boulevard.
