I have two comments.

One, there is no reason why there couldn't be an adult glaucous AND an adult Iceland in the area. People could very well be looking at different birds.

Second, the subspecies of glaucous gull we have in the northwest is variable in size and includes the smallest individuals of the species; I've seen individuals larger as well as slightly smaller than glaucous-wingeds.
