Hello Dennis & All,
According to Mr. Dice
Bobwhite first arrived in the State of Washington about 1883 and were released around Prescott, Waitsburg, Walla Walla and south to Milton-Freewater. These populations exploded and by 1890 there were large parties of hunters coming over from the Puget Sound to hunt Bobwhite. So by 1892 the State decided that more was better and with the native grassland/shrub-steppe grouse in sharp decline it was decided to plant more none native game birds so the California Quail was introduced over the top of the Bobwhite in the same areas. By 1920 the Bobwhite were all but gone and the California/Valley Quail was mostly what was left and the niche war was over. The last Bobwhites from this introduced population seems to have died out during the hard winter of 1993 just northwest of Milton-freewater and along the Walla Walla River. Dog trial folks re-release dozens of Bobwhites every year all over eastern Washington, but I do not know of any self sustaining populations. That's it.
Later Mike
