I purchased the Birdpod software and overall I like it.once I got it to
work. The software only works with the Stokes CD's. The software for the
eastern region has been out for a while. They just added the western region
software a month or two ago. I was one of the first to get the western
region software and it took a while to get it up and running. They
eventually got the glitches out of the software and now it works fine.
Birdpod is a big time saver because it edits out the voice introductions of
each species and automatically generates a variety of playlists. Doing this
manually would take a VERY long time. I tried doing it myself and it took me
about 4 minutes/bird after I got good at it. Doing that for 800 species
would take a while. :-)
Eliminating the voice introductions is very handy for learning. I set my
iPOD to shuffle and listen to songs/calls to test myself. For those that use
bird calls in the field, removing the voice introductions eliminates the
worry of blasting a loud "Dusky Flycatcher" just before you play the song.
BirdPod creates a variety of useful playlists including taxonomic order,
alphabetical and, more interesting to me, by habitat. For example, if you're
birding in a desert scrub habitat and hear a bird you don't recognize, you
can refer to that playlist to try to find the unknown bird.

>>>Hi,
I found a link to a birdpod. But it keeps getting bounced back. It seems
there
is software you can purchase, besides the Stokes CD if you don't have them,
The
software is to make it easier to use the Ipod for the birdsongs. I am not an
Ipod user at this time, and have no idea how this whole thing would work,
but I
would love to get any information from anyone who has used them before.
Thanks, Vicki Biltz >>>
