I do so enjoy the sight of juvenile goldfinches learning how to hang upside
down at my thistle feeder. Every year it makes me giggle! Fuzzy bodies,
madly flapping wings, and one this year would cheep like crazy whenever it
couldn't master the trick - squabbling noise that was quite clear it was
FURIOUS. Or as close to that emotion as birds can get. It would peck at
other finches within range, and generally caused so much fuss that the
squirrels were soon chastising it from the tree, and the crows started cawing
at the squirrels! Quite the backyard symphony, what with the contented
cheeping of sparrows and chickadees in the background.

The fact that I get enjoyment from their struggles bothers me a wee bit. :)
But then they all seem to "get it" after a few days and no more fuss, so
perhaps I am forgiven after all.
