I am currently using the Peck Bird Information Manager produced by Greg Sepesi, on my Palm Tungsten T5. I enjoy it very much and want to let others know about it. I have no financial interest.

The Bird Information Manager comes in both a free public domain version and a proprietary version at www.eduneer.com
The program is best suited for a Palm unit with an expandable SD memory capacity. Most newer models have this.

The program contains a great deal of information on most species of birds found in the US as listed by the AOU.
One can refine or filter the lists so that, for example, only birds of one state or region are viewed. There are other ways to filter as well, so that the list can reflect your own viewing interest.

There are 450 photos in the public domain version, and 859 in the proprietary version(859 photos of 489 species; some with more than one photo or pictures of the eggs of that species).

The best part for me is the large number of audio files of bird songs and calls - 150 in the public domain version and 552 ( of 409 species; some with both call and song) in the proprietary version.

The program is complex if one desires to use all the facets: filters, listings etc.
And it was not without bugs. My proprietary version, used on a Palm Tungsten T5 would not play audio well at first.

However, the author, Greg Sepesi, is quite accessible by email and sincerely dedicated to improving his work. The audio bugs for the T5 have now been worked out and hopefully the program will work on any Palm unit.

I highly recommend that anyone who would like to have a handy field guide complete with life history, vocalization mneumonics, identification tips, photos, songs and calls consider trying the public domain version at www.eduneer.com
If you find the public domain version useful, the proprietary version seemed very reasonable at $19.
