The following interesting bird sightings have been reported in the Spokane
area during the past week.

A Jan 25th trip to Mt Spokane produced 2 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS, 100 RED
CROSSBILLS, 10 CASSIN'S FINCHES, 40 PINE SISKINS, 1 GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCH,
1 EVENING GROSSBEAK & 1 CLARK'S NUTCRACKER. Most were in the condo area.

On Jan 24th, 7 SNOWY OWLS were seen by one birder in the Reardan area. I
believe all were in Lincoln Co. The easiest one might be where Hwy 2
crosses the Lincoln/ Spokane Co line.

On Jan 21, a TREE SPARROW was on McFarlane Rd, near Coulee-Hite, south of
Hwy 2, west of Spokane. Also, a SHORT-EARED OWL was west of Coulee-Hite,
near Thorpe Rd. On Jan 24, 2 TREE SPARROWS were about 3/4 mile east of the
other sparrow sighting.

A WESTERN SCREECH-OWL was seen Jan 24th in an owl box in north Spokane.

On Jan 24, 16 BARROW'S GOLDENEYE were on Williams Lake.

On Jan 22, a CASSIN'S FINCH was at a south Spokane feeder. This is the
first one seen in Spokane County this winter. PINE SISKINS have been absent
away from Mt Spokane.

BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS have been reported from Medical Lake, south Spokane off
lower Hatch Road, and from Tower Mountain. Flocks have been 100 or less.

On Jan 21, Calispell Lake, Pend Oreille Co, was "loaded with Mallards,
Gadwalls, Am Wigeons, 1 N Pintail, Greater and Lesser Scaup, Ring Necked
Duck, Redhead, Canvasback, Bufflehead. Common Goldeneye, Hooded and Common
Mergansers, and Canada Geese. Among the 15 Tundra Swan were two Trumpeters.
A Pileated Woodpecker was along Pease Rd. And a N Pygmy Owl was calling
along Pease Rd."

Red-tailed Hawks are nest building.

Spokane County's group year list is up to 94.
