While out collecting the sick and dead swans off Wiser Lake north of
Bellingham, we had the wonderful company of an adult red tailed hawk, a
peregrine falcon, and two bald eagles, one eating ducks at the west end of
the lake, then flying up to join its mate in the nest tree at the west end
of the lake. At the east end of the lake in the wetlands area there are
many, many, many duck carcasses, most have been predated to some extent or
another. It appears that the lake's daily duck refuge is also a
smorgasboard for the local winter raptors. The peregrine and the redtail
were moving about, then perching, waiting for us to let the duck settle
before choosing their next potential meal.
