Hi Tweeters,

First the disclaimer, I don't consider myself to be
very good at gull id. That said I saw a gull I
thought could be a fit for Iceland Gull at the
"Thayer's Gull" spot on the Green River in Tukwila.
Directions to follow.

After reading Micheal Hobb's post yesterday I decided
to check the Thayers gull spot since the last time I
visited the Green River was too high and was over
their beach area. After sorting through the gull
flock I wanted to scan back through to confirm to
myself I saw a Herring Gull in the mix of Thayer's and
Glaucous-winged Gulls. I never did confirm the
Herring because the pale gull caught my eye. White
head with some subtle gray markings, mantle paler than
the nearby Thayer's but not by much. When I looked
away to look at my field guide it took me a bit to
relocate it based on mantle color. Eye paler than any
of the pale-eyed Thayer's. Wing-tip and underwing
white. I thought I could discern very subtle gray in
the primaries but main impression was white. The bill
was essentially identical to the Thayer's.

I ran into other birders today and let them know. I
hope someone else gets to see this bird. The gull
flock was very spooky and would fly at little things
like a Canada Goose flying over. Also the flock was
in at least two sections, some on the beach, some on
the Yellow trucking buildings.

Directions from I-5 take the Interurban exit. From
I-5 north take a right at Interurban, from the south
take a left onto Interurban. Just past the Jack in
the Box and the new Starbucks take a right on the next
street, take the next right. You can either turn in
left here and go around the building to reach the
park or go to the end of the short road and turn left
into the ambulance company, just drive right on past
all the ambulances to the built up hillside. This is
the park. The gulls hang out on the mud beach or to
your right on the Yellow trucking company building.
