Although I live only 2 miles from Luhr Beach/Nisqually Reach, it took me a couple of years to get down there. On one of my first trips there I ran into a man climbing onto the fishing platform railings to evict starlings from 2 new purple martin boxes he had placed there. And so I got to meet and talk with Kevin Li. I was impressed with his knowledge and his willingness to impart it. I envied his commitment to birding and particularly to purple martins. We have indeed lost a valuable man.
