Hello All:
Today there were 47 Barn Swallows and 6 Tree Swallows in the field north of
Hwy 101 near Carruthers Road, northwest of South Bend in Pacific County.
They were frantically trying to feed as a big squall came in with high
winds. Other nearby birds were a Great Egret, 2 White-tailed Kites, a
Rough-legged Hawk, and 40 Greater Yellowlegs.

Also, the section of Independence Road just north of the Red-shouldered Hawk
(near Rochester, Thurston County) is under water after this last rain. We
managed to loop around via Lincoln Creek Road and found that the spot is
still accessible from the south. After 15 minutes of searching, the bright
adult bird flew in and preened briefly in an alder right near Van Dyke Road.
The Townsend's Solitaire was defending its juniper tree at the base of
Goodrich Road near Grand Mound, as advertised.
