Years ago when I lived in Liberty Lake, WA, next to the Idaho state line, there was a lot of acreage planted in grass seed and turf. In late summer, there would be wall-to-wall Kestrels along the fencelines, often 30 ringing a single field. So if there were no grasshoppers in your bag of grass seed, you could thank the Kestrels. That's all been developed since then, though.

Someone's earlier comment about Red Tails claiming the power poles and Kestrels sitting on the wires reminded me of a winter trip to south Florida a few years back. As I drove from Corkscrew up to Lake Okeechobee, the line between every third pole had it's own Kestrel. I counted over 100 of them that day!
