Hi, Tweets

It's the last day of January and almost time for the vanguards of our
northern Pacific Northwest turkey vulture population to put in an
appearance - in fact, a few may have already arrived. The big numbers
won't arrive until March and April, but so far, and through the
winter, a few have been seen. Following is the Winter 2005-2006
report for Washington and Oregon. Haven't heard about any in B.C.,
but there are usually a few on Vancouver Island. Anyone know about these?

December 2005

18 -- 1 on the Coos Bay Christmas Count

January 2006

02 -- 1 perched in a tree in an undeveloped King County park near
Lake Sawyer in Black Diamond
05 -- 1 on the Bellingham Christmas Count
07 -- 16 around the Fern Ridge Reservoir, Oregon
08 -- 2 flying above the cliffs at mp 176/Hyw 12 going to Yakima
17 -- 1 over the Lummi Flats
18 -- 1 on the Coos Bay Christmas Count; 1 in mid-town Portland,
Oregon; 3 on the San Juan Islands Christmas Count
22 -- 2 soaring with a raven over the Lake Wentworth area north of La
Push/Dickey
29 -- 1 south of Port Orchard
30 -- 2 over fields south of 101 near Port Angeles

Thanks for these reports, and if anyone has any other winter reports,
please send them on . . . and start looking up for migrants!

Cheers, Diann
