Since I was the one who got the Iceland Gull juggernaut rolling, I feel the
need to put it into question myself. The new photos I'm seeing show a
massive bill and menacing look we did not see in the field, and if it is the
same bird as was initially found, it appears to be a small, odd-looking
Glaucous Gull. If this is the case, the bird can make itself look amazingly
small and cute, as several others and I can attest, but the new evidence
shows quite the opposite. This is a very confusing bird.
