A friend of mine has a problem, and a bird may be able
to help her out.
A neighbor just down the hill from her has requested a
"Height Variance Release" to allow him to replace his
2 story house with a 3 story behemoth. He has posted
the Land Use Proposal bulletins just recently. The
area is curently zoned for 25 foot houses, he wants
35!
She is rallying her neighbors to try to preserve their
view and block his variance request.
One aspect that might help her, is that just down the
hill from them is an active Bald Eagle nest. The nest
tree is just below her neighbors house. And she has a
decent view of the eagle and nest now, that will be
blocked by the new construction. The eagles are still
around, with their fledgling from last year, and
presumably will be starting nesting activities very
soon.

Any suggestions from anyone in Tweeterdom about any
tactics she can bring to bear documenting that the
building activity or changes in the area will
adversely effect the Bald Eagle nest success? Any
studies that anyone knows of to support this? What
ARE the current regulations about construction
activities in close proximity to an active eagle nest?
Or is this a bad tactic to attempt?
