Tweets,
For the last two days I had been observing a pair of Killdeer and a very
fuzzy baby. Yesterday they were there as usual but were down the beach
towards me. As the tide started to come in I commented that if they didn't
move back down the beach soon, they wouldn't be able to move down the beach.
The shoreline goes straight across except for one small cove. This wouldn't
have been a problem except that there is an eight foot cement bulkhead all
along this cove. It was just before dark when I could hear the parents
making a big fuss. I looked over to the cove and discovered that the water
had come up all around it and the only way out was up the eight foot wall!
No way the baby was going to do that! I knew that it only had about 5
minutes before the waves drowned it so..Yep, I went and moved it....I know!
I shouldn't have intervened. I also worried that if I touched it, the
parents would abandon it but since it was going to die anyway I decided to
"help" it. I waded out the cove and picked it up. Boy did it make a racket!
I didn't realize such a tiny thing could make so much noise. I waded back
and my friend put it at the top of the bulkhead in a persons yard that had
bushes. It immediately scurried off. I was relieved to see it this morning
back on the beach with mom and dad happy as could be. I normally would let
nature take its course, but this once I could'nt resist.
