On Wednesday, [Space Shuttle] Discovery's astronauts spent much
of their time imaging the shuttle's wings and nose cap with a
camera and laser attached to a 15m-long (50ft) boom.

The photographs did reveal some unusual streaks on the right
wing, but the US space agency believes these are bird droppings
and that they will not affect the shuttle on its re-entry.
