Well, I'm not having much luck birding.

Drove the Umptanum Road from Ellensburg to Boise-Cascade Campground to North Wenas Road from about 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday evening. Saw all 150 bluebird nests along the way, but nary a single bluebird. I'm wondering why this might be? I thought they would be feeding their babies, or that I might at least see some males flying around? Is it too hot? Would early morning be a better time to see them?

Also tried to see bobolinks just north of Toppenish Creek where they have been seen recently. Met a farmer who lives there who told me where to look. He said he'd seen them last week, but I didn't see a one. Did see some grasshopper sparrows singing their hearts out, though, so that was fun.

Are there any birdwalks scheduled in the Wapato/Toppenish/Yakima/Ellensburg areas within the next few days? If anyone has bobolinks in their backyard, I'd love to see some. It seems that is the type of birding I do best--backyard birding where a bird is a frequent visitor. LOL

Thanks in advance, Clare, Ogden, Utah; ReligionWriter at yahoo.com
