Does anyone know if perhaps a local preserve lost a snowy owl recently?
Otherwise, I can't imagine where the heck one would have come from
this time of year.
My family was at Penrose Point State Park, on the Key Peninsula today.
As we were leaving the park, I saw an owl in an odd position on the
grass along side of the road. all spread out and turning its head to
watch me. Thinking it was injured, I turned the car around and headed back
Of course, when we we got right next to it in the car, it flew away.
As far as I know, there's not another bird that could possibly be
mistaken for a snowy owl, so I'm feeling rather flummoxed. All four of
us saw it and can identify it.
