In the parking lot of Group Healths Redmond Hospital there was an adult
Pileated foraging on a Douglas fir, about a foot off the ground. After a
few minutes a juv came, begged and was fed by the adult. I stood and watched
them intently and to my surprise, my staring attracted 5 other people who
wanted to know what the birds were. As we stood around, a second youngster
showed up, begged but did not get fed. His sibling might have made some
remark to him for after a minute the second youngster starting called and
flew right at the first, displacing him twice. The crowd watching this had
grown to 10 people.
