All good advice, but don't forget the Howell's OTHER book: "A
Bird-Finding Guide to Mexico, which has location info & species lists
for P.V. as well as several nearby birding sites. But be forewarned
-- birding in Mexico is ADDICTING -- everyone wants to go to Costa
Rica & S. America (which are great as well), but there are
outstanding birding opportunities & beautiful scenery to be had
throughout Mexico. Take heed of the personal safety recommendations
in the guide book (like dressing and acting modestly, not travelling
at night and avoiding big cities) and you should have no problems.
Also, try very hard to avoid travelling alone -- it is more fun and a
lot safer to travel with others outside the tourist areas (where the
great birding is to be had).
