Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge / Thursday, July 13, 2006

Four birders enjoyed Thursday's walk at the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge. Highlights included several marbled godwits in the wetland area just before the McAllister Creek gate. Other shorebirds included western sandpipers, killdeer, snipe, and greater yellowlegs. The juvenile eagle was visible in the nest across the creek. We were sorry to find a dead juvenile virginia rail on the trail that had recently been killed, but not totally eaten. Total species numbered 37.
