Wanted to belatedly report at least one, and possibly two, WESTERN BLUEBIRDS
here at Tiny's Land in n. Lake Stevens back on July 12 (last Wednesday).
The bird (or birds) was heard-only but real distinct in our west open
forest, up high near the tree crowns, for about 10 minutes with the "few,
few, fawee" and single notes. I had a similar encounter with an
out-of-range bird in June 1993 up at my mother-in-law's place in the
foothills just east of Mt. Vernon, also a heard-only.

I'm hearing a few Red Crossbills and Pine Siskins about, perhaps the cone
crop is returning. Also, a imm. Barred Owl is around, which makes sense
since the battered lawn suggests that voles are at an all-time high. We
also had some Black Bear droppings on the drive last weekend.
