Subject: [Tweeters] heron nesting - help wanted!

Ann, a biologist who is currently studying great blue herons in Puget Sound, asked that I post this message on her behalf:

Notice from Ann Eissinger - Great Blue Heron Biologist:

A Great Blue Heron is nesting at the Keystone Ferry on the pilings at the ferry dock. This is very unusual and is the first time a heron has ever been observed in such a location. There used to be an active colony at Fort Casey, but I don't know what happened that colony or if it has relocated, if anyone knows please contact me. I am asking if anyone is interested in photographing the heron nesting and its young at the Keystone Ferry Dock for me and sending the photos (please send jpegs only).I would also like to know if there is anyone willing to monitor the nest and its success.this is a very unique situation and needs monitoring!! ..there are currently three young in the nest and they are fully exposed, plus they don't have anywhere to land when they fledge except option 1) the ferry, 2) the ferry dock 3) the water or the best option fly to land..

Please contact Ann at Nahkeeta Northwest: Nahkeeta at fidalgo.net<mailto:Nahkeeta at fidalgo.net> or call 360-766-6008
