after watching again this evening, I think I know what maybe going on.

Two Wilson Warblers (first years) show up at the bird bath around 6:00 along side two or more fledged towhees. Last night as the towhee family was bathing the wilsons were flitting about, like they wanted the towhees to move on. Though of course the towhees barely even notice the warblers. And after two young and one adult towhee bathes the wilsons still do not partake in the bath.

So this evening while the towhees again dominate the bath, I realize that the warblers are actually bathing via water splashed from the enthusiastic towhees. The warblers perch under the bath on the vines and dash in and out under the water droplets. After the towhees bath, they head for the leaf litter to check out dinner, the warblers followed them, sitting on the fence watching.
After the towhees are done, the western tanager juv helped himself and had a nice dip while dad fed him twice while he sat in the water. When a male robin showed up the Tanager baby begged from him! The male tanager was busy trying to chase off the Stellers Jay.
