Hi Tweets

Six of us walked Marymoor yesterday in the absence of Michael Hobbs. We had a bright, clear day early, with some high clouds moving in toward the end of our walk. It was a day typical of mid-July with very much singing being heard. However, it was notable for the number of juvenile birds being seen. Young swallows are out in profusion testing our i.d. skills and frustration levels. Juvenile CEDAR WAXWINGS, SONG SPARROWS, BEWICK'S WRENS, COMMON YELLOWTHROATS and BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS kept popping up, and as always with these young birds, provided momentary confusion.

Species of note included:
BELTED KINGFISHER - both male and female and perhaps a young bird
OSPREY - three young birds on the nest this morning with an adult perched just above the nest
COMMON YELLOWTHROAT - lots of young birds around
YELLOW WARBLER - at least one juvenile
WOOD DUCK - a female with two ducklings, and another female with 12 ducklings
SWAINSON'S THRUSH - an adult with a juvenile
DOWNY & HAIRY WOODPECKERS - chasing each other
RED-EYED VIREO - both adult and juvenile

A pleasant summer day during the July "doldrums" that still yielded 52 species.
