RARE BIRD ALERT for a LITTLE STINT at Iona Island.


Sightings for Friday, July 21

The adult LITTLE STINT in worn alternate plumage was again observed
on the SW Pond and SE Pond at Iona Island in Richmond from 9:30 am
to 11:30 AM in the company of 10 Least Sandpipers.


Sightings for Thursday, July 20

The adult LITTLE STINT in worn alternate plumage continues on the SW
Pond at Iona Island in Richmond. It was reported from around 3 PM to
about 7:30 PM when the peeps were all chased out by a hunting MERLIN.


Sightings for Wednesday, July 19

At around 4:30 pm tonight an adult LITTLE STINT in worn alternate
plumage was discovered on the SW Pond at Iona Island in Richmond. 1
PEREGRINE FALCON was again seen over the Port Mann Bridge.


Sightings for Tuesday, July 18

10 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were observed in the evening over Como Lake
in Coquitlam.


Sightings for Sunday, July 16

The BRANT was observed today along the beach off Point Grey near
Alma in Vancouver.


Sightings for Wednesday, July 12

50 BLACK SWIFTS were observed at the Pattullo Bridge in the morning
and 1 PEREGRINE FALCON was seen hunting ROCK DOVES over
the Port Mann Bridge between Surrey and Coquitlam.

At Stanley Park in Vancouver, on the beach just west of English Bay,
a BRANT was observed.


Sightings for Tuesday, July 11, 2006

At the Reifel Refuge in Delta 1 adult STILT SANDPIPER has been
present since July 10th. A first year immature BLACK-CROWNED
NIGHT-HERON was seen on July 10th to 11th.
On the mudflats off Centennial Beach in Tsawwassen, 3 RED KNOTS,
a GOLDEN-PLOVER (species?), and 35 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS
were present.

At Iona Island in Richmond, a EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE was
observed on the mud of the SW Pond. Also present were 350
WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 50 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS,
25 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 1 PECTORAL SANDPIPER,
5 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, and 16 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS.


Sightings for Monday, July 10, 2006

At Deep Cove in North Vancouver, a pair of BARRED OWLS were heard calling at
around 2 am


Sightings for Sunday, July 9

At the base of the Tsawwassen ferry jetty in Delta, the WILLET has
returned, presumably to spend the winter again.
