Hi All,

We had visitors in town and were doing the tourist thing, very early AM of 23 July, when we spotted what we identified as Stan Kostka in the tidal basin next to the Anacortes ferry landing. It was kind of a long way off, but we were fairly sure we made the correct ID.

We used the following field marks:

1) large size

2 ) carrying ladder

3 ) doesn?t just care about the birds like some of us; actually gets out and does stuff at all hours and under all types of weather conditions.

4). Was surrounded by very large numbers of Purple Martins, which were filling the air with cheerful reverberating musical notes.

In the good old days, we used some of the same field marks, particularly the last three, when trying to identify Kevin Li.

On the following days in Orcas & Lopez we had nothing unusual as usual, but were delighted to see and hear Olive-sided Flycatchers in several locations, many Pacific-slope Flycatchers, a pair of Marbled Murrelets, Black Oystercatchers, a still singing Purple Finch, Tree, Violet Green Barn & Rough-winged Swallows, including many swallows protesting a Cooper's Hawk kill on Lopez, a Mink foraging on Lopez, a flock of Red Crossbills, at an Orange-crowned Warbler, Douglas Squirrels and an unidentified reddish squirrel that looked almost Fox Squirrel size on Orcas: Eastern Gray?
