Subject: [Tweeters] Red Crossbills at Pt Defiance

Today I was able to walk all around Point Defiance Park, and had a pleasant surprise at the Japanese garden. I was about ready to leave and was looking for Anna's Hummingbirds to add to my count. At the pool at this garden I saw a finch in one of the small pines and thought it was a goldfinch. When I got very close I saw that there were two strange birds.....they actually jumped down and hopped around close to my feet, a red male and yellowish female....with crossbills! They had been bathing.

Other birds I saw today include Pacific-slope Flycatchers and Purple Martins. Anthony's Restaurant near the Ferry Terminal is a reliable place to see Martins.
