Hi:

I remember many years ago while fishing at Pt. Defiance, off of the light
house, that one had to cast away from the diving ducks or you would get 'em.
They dove and chased the herring much better than any salmon. My brother
caught one of the ducks one time when I was with him and he "talked" to it
in his then recently acquired Navy language which I can't repeat here.

My husband went fly fishing yesterday evening at the North Fork of the
Skykomish Valley (San Juan campground). He was standing thigh high in the
water waving his line back and forth over his head. A flycatcher of some
sort went after the "fly"! Okay, has it ever happened that way? Has a fly
fisherman ever caught a bird?

Oh and we spied a family of some sort of duck. It looked like a mother and
two youngsters. The larger appeared to be smaller than a mallard with white
spots and perhaps streaks on its face. The body was two shades of gray. I
think it was a wood duck family.

Also spied three dipper birds and a tiny wren. Douglas Squirrels scoped out
our campsite and decided to stay away because of our puppy's keen interest
in them!
