On July 9, Jane Abel observed and photographed 2 MARBLED GODWITS on the
second island north of Nelson Island in the Columbia River in North
Richland. MARBLED GODWITS are seen less than annually in the area but have
been seen in early July on previous occasions.

As soon as there is mud at the Yakima Delta, there should be shorebirds to
observe. For a very brief time on July 12 and 13 there was mud. On the
12th, Nancy LaFramboise observed WESTERN and LEAST SANDPIPERS and
additionally on the 13th she also found 1 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER.

The Wallula MAPS (Monitoring Avian Productivity and Survivorship) Station
has had some interesting sightings recently. On July 18, for the first time
in the 6 years the station has run, a WESTERN TANAGER was banded. On the
26th a WARBLING VIREO and a DARK-EYED JUNCO juvenile were banded. These are
all migrants, so keep your eyes open.

Scott Dietert reported a WESTERN TANAGER in his North Richland yard on July
26.

To report your own sightings, please give your name, phone number, date, and
sightings after the tone. Thank you.
