This past friday was the first official flight of one of the Bald Eagle fledglings. I happened to be the much honored hostess of the first bird to fly more than a few feet away.
It ended up being perhaps 1/2 block. The fledgling landed clumsily in my 120' tall fir, and sat for about 20 minutes. Until yesterday, both fledglings were flying around, staying in the neighborhood. Today they have all four moved further southeast.
It was great seeing them fly so well after that first flight.

I talked to a city coucil members wife yesterday, and it looks like they are not going ahead with the condos. Good news for everyone. Her husband didn't know about the nest, and was glad to hear of it.
