Hi Tweets,

Spent the morning checking out shorebirds at Perch Point, Soap Lake, and a
few other locations. Other locations included Birder's Corner (along
Frenchman Hills Road), Moore Road (near Blue Lake along SR-17), Lena Lake
and Coulee Lake (below South Dam on Banks Lake), and the Coulee City STP.

The following shorebirds were observed:

Killdeer - Many - All locations
Semipalmated Plover - 3 - Perch Point
Black-necked Stilt - 11 - Birder's Corner, Lena Lake, Coulee City STP
American Avocet - 9 - Soap Lake
Lesser Yellowlegs - 6 - Perch Point, Coulee City STP
Greater Yellowlegs - 5 - Perch Point
Solitary Sandpiper - 1 - Perch Point
Spotted Sandpiper - 4 - Perch Point, Soap Lake
SANDERLING - 1 - Perch Point
Western Sandpiper - 134 - Perch Point, Soap Lake
Least Sandpiper - 2 - Moore Road
Baird's Sandpiper - 1 - Perch Point
Long-billed Dowitcher - 1 - Coulee City STP
Wilson's Snipe - 1 - Birder's Corner
Wilson's Phalarope - 7 - Birder's Corner, Soap Lake
Red-necked Phalarope - 8 - Soap Lake, Moore Road

16 species of shorebirds was a fairly good morning inland. Though the
diversity was good, the numbers are still fairly low. All birds seen were
adults.

Other birds of note for the trip included the following:

Red-necked Grebe - 1 - Alkali Lake (a local breeder)
Western Grebe - 2 adults, 2 young - Blue Lake (the first record of breeding
on this lake that I have recorded)
Hooded Merganser - 1 - Lake Lenore (an unusual sighting for the season)
Prairie Falcon - 2 - one at Lake Lenore, one at Summer Falls
Burrowing Owl - 1 - along SR-17 near MP-70 in the burnt out shrub-steppe
Lark Sparrow - 13 - Lake Lenore (south end)
Sage Thrasher - 5 - along Pinto Hill Road

It was a fine day and the weather in the basin has moderated. At noon it was
only 84 degrees. Hope to see you in the field.
