Sunday July 30, 2006:
The Sunday bird walk went to Legacy Marsh in Upper Lantzville, twelve
birders
found the following thirty-three species:

Hooded Merganser
Perigrine Falcon
Band-tailed Pigeon
Northern Flicker
Pileated Woodpercker
Red-breasted Sapsucker
Willow Flycatcher
Pacific-slope Flycatcher
Olive-sided Flycatcher
Northwestern Crow
Common Raven
Tree Swallow
Barn Swallow
Chestnut-backed Chickadee
Bushtit
Golden-crowned Kinglet
American Robin
Swainson's Thrush
Belted Kingfisher
European Starling
Cedar Waxwing
Common Yellowthroat
Spotted Towhee
Song Sparrow
Red-winged Blackbird
Dark-eyed Junco
American Goldfinch
White-crowned Sparrow

Saturday July 29:
A PURPLE FINCH was seen in the 2100 block of Lancashire Avenue in Nanaimo.

Thursday July 27:
A large flock of BUSHTITS and nine CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEES were seen
along Boundry Crescent in Nanaimo.
A large flock of COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were spotted over Kaye Road in the
Rivers Edge area behind the Government Weigh Scale in Parksville.

Wednesday July 26:
A STELLER'S JAY was seen in a yard near Lost Lake in north Nanaimo.
Eight GREAT BLUE HERONS were spotted flying over the sea near the 1100 block
of Pintail Drive in Qualicum Beach.

Tuesday July 25:
A BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK was seen in the 1700 block of El Verano Drive on
Gabriola Island.

Monday July 24:
Four MERLINS, two CALIFORNIA QUAIL, and several CEDAR WAXWINGS were seen
along Ermineskin Avenue in Parksville.

Sunday July 23:
One LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER, a flock of WESTERN and LEAST SANDPIPERS, one
SEMI-PALMATED PLOVER and several KILLDEER were seen at the Englishman River
Estuary in Parksville.
A large number of BLACK SWIFTS and COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were seen near
Craig Bay in Parksville.

The Sunday Bird Walk went to Buttertubs Marsh in Nanaimo.
Four birders found the following twenty-two species:

Great Blue Heron
Turkey Vulture
Wood Duck
Mallard
Hooded Merganser
Rock Pigeon
Northern Flicker
Northwestern Crow
Common Raven

Saturday July 22:
A pair of MERLIN were spotted hunting HOUSE SPARROWS along Waddington
Road in Nanaimo.
A pair of GREEN HERON were seen at Buttertubs Marsh in Nanaimo.
A BARRED OWL was sighted between McGregor Marsh and Linley Valley in
Nanaimo.

Monday July 17:
A pair of PERGRINE FALCONS are nesting in a fir tree in the Uplands area,
close to the end of Littleford Road, in Nanaimo.
PURPLE MARTINS were spotted in the Wakefield Drive area and also in the
Railway Avenue of Nanaimo.
CEDAR WAXWINGS and BLACK SWIFTS were seen above Renz Road in
Parksville.

Sunday July 16:
AMERICAN GOLDFINCH were seen feeding on hummingbird feeders along
Dawkins Lane in Nanaimo.
