Subject: [Tweeters] A bird out of place

Stretched my legs today at the Bob Heirman park out of Snohomish. Along the
river I came across a lone western sandpiper. I was surprised and was
subjected to an attack of must-be-raritis so I sat down and spent more than
half an hour going through Sibley comparing it to every Calidris it might
have been. The bird in question got a bit jittery when the big monkey sat
down so close, but the invertebrate yummies in the mud along the river must
have been good cause it stayed there feeding the whole time. Excellent
views, good light. No possible doubt, it was a western, all by itself along
the Snohomish river. This is the first time ever I have seen one alone and
also along the river. I hiked the shoreline of the river and kept expecting
to see the rest of the flock, but nary another sandpiper was to be seen.
Most peculiar.
