This sighting was on the beach 7 miles south of Kalaloch. On Saturday
morning, July 29 about 9:30 in the morning. I saw a male and female Red
Crossbill on the beach by some driftwood. The female was on the sand. I
watched her closely for three to four minutes pecking the inside of a dead
Dungeness crab. I expect she was targeting the sand fleas in and around the
long dead carcass but who knows? Are these birds known from the beach? And
at this time of year? And do they feed on sand fleas?
